360 gold an hour mining Fel Iron

Here's another method of making a reasonable amount of gold that I have discovered recently. The only catch is that you need to have Mining and epic flight. If you don't have epic flight you can still use this method to make some gold but you won't be making 360 an hour or even 300 an hour.

I stumbled upon this method after needing a bunch of Fel Iron bars for my mage who's also an engineer. I didn't have enough bars in my personal stock so I checked the price on the auction house. A bar is created from 2 ore. The cheapest ore was 1.5G a piece and there weren't many at that price. The bars were more than 3G a piece. I figured that since my hunter (also my miner) has 310 flight, he might as well farm the ore himself.

One of the best - if not the best - places for Fel Iron is Hellfire Peninsula. In 10 minutes I had 2 full stacks of ore and I called it quits because that's all I needed.

Extrapolating, this would amount to about 360 gold an hour, farming Fel Iron. It might not be the best way to make gold in WoW but it's one more method under your belt and worth considering if you are a miner (with epic flight) and need the cash.

You are forgetting about the khorium factor.

OK, if you need fel iron, and JUST fel iron, and you need it now, and no-one is selling it, and you have a miner ofc, then yeah.

But otherwise...go somewhere higher level in BC zones, ideally netherstorm or shadowmoon because no one else goes there levelling - anyone sensible 68+ will be in northrend by that point.

You will get mostly adamantite ore, which sells for way more than fel iron 'cause people need a fair bit of Mercurial adamantite to level JC and, very occasionally, you'll get some khorium, which goes for more than titanium these days (35-40g per ore on my server)

Oddly enough you don't need any khorium to get trade skills up to max any more, but you do need it for the top-end engi mount, jeeves & assorted other luxury/vanity items, which means the people who buy it are usually very rich, and...well, you work it out;)

Yeah you're right but I specifically needed Fel Iron. I had farmed Adamantite about a week before, in Nagrand and there's plenty of it there. As for Khorium, I got a few nodes as well but they are very scarce. Khorium is about 50-60 gold a bar on my server. Actually Adamantite is less than Fel Iron and I even buy cheap ore when I find it.

As with any other market, a little diversification goes a long way. If you're going to farm Outlands for ore then you want to be sure you're getting multiple kinds of ore.

There's a flip side to what Darth is talking about here though. You can farm Fel Iron on a level 58 character and not only make a lot of gold doing it, but also level the toon by doing so. Mining and Herbalism nodes both reward experience now, so it's entirely possible to just farm your way through Outlands all together. It's certainly not the fastest way to level, but it's a perfectly legit way to both level and earn gold at the same time.

You can often get more experience from farming a node than you can from killing mobs. I'm leveling a new death knight strictly for professions and have leveled so far from 58-61 entirely from farming herb nodes and doing the pre-Cata events.

Fel Iron is used by the truck load for leveling professions, so while it might not sell quite as well on an per ore basis, it's likely to sell more frequently and in larger supply than other Outlands ores.

Keep in mind that this will be available to everyone. Also, post-Cata world will allow flying mounts everywhere (speeding up the gathering process by a lot and lowering the markt prices).

Dudes I keep telling you that Fel Iron is not cheap on my server. At least 1.5 per ore and 3 per bar. Cobalt is in the same boat.

My theory is that low level ores aren't gathered that much by leveling characters so the supply is relatively scarce. At level 80, for example, most characters spend their time in high level areas with plenty of Saronite but no Cobalt.

@Psynister, thanks for the tip I have a Paladin who just hit level 58 and has mining. I found doing the Ravasaur quests and doing circuits of Un'Goro Crater to be a nice boost to XP at the time (mid-50).
I'll be heading to Hellfire Penisular now.
