Getting Into Ragefire Chasm As Alliance

Ahhh, the Ragefire Chasm achievement. Ragefire Chasm (or RFC) is to Alliance what The Stockade is to Horde. In other words it seems damn hard to get into, being right in the middle of Orgrimmar.

Well ok, maybe it's not so hard to get inside after all, especially if you are 80. There is one major and proven method: ride in as far as you can. If you can make it to the instance fine, if not, just die, rez, rinse and repeat.

Here is the short story of my attempt to reach RFC.

For starters, I ported to Darnassus from Dalaran. Then I grabbed a taxi to the flight point in Azshara. That seemed the shortest route to Orgrimmar after eye-balling a map of Kalimdor. Azshara > Ashenvale > Barrens > Durotar > Orgrimmar. In retrospect I think it might have been faster to port to Stormwind, fly to Booty Bay and from there grab the boat to Ratchet in the Barrens where it's a fairly short trek to Durotar and Orgrimmar.

Now once you get to the gates of Orgrimmar, here's the drill:

1. Take your gear off so it won't break if you die.

2. Study the map of the route.

3. Run like hell (on your mount).

From there on it's up to you and it depends on your luck if you make it in one go or not. I was lucky and made it even though Orgrimmar was full of players. I guess most people simply do not expect a naked dwarf to ride brazenly right through the middle of their city. Tip: if you are scared of dying inside Orgrimmar, why not wait until a more unpopulated hour to try?

The instance itself is the shortest one I've ever seen and the achievement took about 5 minutes from the moment I stepped inside until I killed Taragaman the Hungerer. What surprised me was the large number of green item drops from the mobs I killed. Not even Deadmines yielded so many.

So there you have it. Although getting there might be a bitch, the achievement itself is a cinch. And um, hmm, was that a rhyme?

I found going to the instance from the back entrance was so much easier and there are like NO players their either, just stay off the road and you will have no trouble getting to RFC.

That's another way of doing, true, but a naked dwarf through the main gates is more classy IMO.

Did this last night, after reading this entry (and drinking too much whisky). Level 71 rogue, killed twice by guards and once by lvl 80 DK before I got to Ragefire, which I cleared in a few minutes. One more corpse run got me to the nearby pond, for the Fishing Diplomat achievement. Did about 50 casts hoping for Old Crafty, no luck, and had to sleep. Tried again this afternoon, and was lucky to get a few fishing skill points (but no Old Crafty) before the Horde sniffed me out.

Nice blog, by the way. Another long-time solo-er here.

Darth Solo said...

Gratz on making it Nic! And thanks for visiting.

As far as I'm aware Old Crafty is no longer a requirement for Fishing Diplomat. The only thing you need to do is fish *something* in Orgrimmar.

I got incredibly lucky and went during Horde Holiday or something. I ran through and did not even get hit once on my DK. There were absolutely no Horde ANYWHERE. I dunno if they were fending off an attack or what. I love Solo Guides. I find myself going solo a lot.. probably since my first toon was a hunter and we soloed a ton of content. My DK can solo a ton of dungeons and old world raids which is nice.

Darth Solo said...

Well you've come to the right place. My main is a hunter and my other main (heh heh) is a death knight. In fact the DK is my spiritual main because I enjoy him more than the hunter, yet the hunter is a better farmer.

I did this achievement in the phased Orgrimmar portion of the Wrath Gate quest chain. Makes the fishing achievements easier, too :)

Darth Solo said...

Regrettably I didn't think about the fishing thing when I was phased in Orgrimmar. On the other hand I don't have fishing on my main either so it wouldn't have helped.

Great Blog! I am also a solo player. I do not have the time where I can commit 5-6 hours for raids. How do you get decent gear if you don't have time for raids?

Darth Solo said...

@superdeluxe thanks! Well, decent gear isn't that hard to get if you don't raid. I think I shall write an article on this subject but my philosophy is this: since I don't raid, I don't really need the very best gear in the game. Hence, if I'm at least in quest blues, I'm good. Basically I get all the blues I can from group quests and then, at max level, I also get the best crafted epics I can find. Also, I watch for "special" BOE epics in the AH, meaning those that drop in raids and instances.

superdeluxe said...

But the wouldn't the cost that it requires for these special BOE epics, take more time than doing the raid itself?

Thanks Again!

Darth Solo said...

I would say yes. However, bear in mind that I'm strictly a solo player and I rarely step in a dungeon (perhaps once a year lol, excluding dungeons that I can solo), much less raids. So BOP raid/instance gear is out of the question for me.

Anonymous said...

You can do this at any lvl, it just takes longer if your a lvl 50 naked dwarf...

Anonymous said...

MOST FUN IVE EVER HAD hahaha
running naked thru Orgrimmar ftw :D

Anonymous said...

I didn't even know about this achievement until I came across this post. I already did the fishing achievement, and assumed that would be the last time I was stepping foot into Orgrimmar - yet I am on my way there now. Two invisibility potions and my trusty rocket boots should do the trick.

Anonymous said...

Ok. Just did it. That was freaking FUN! Riding through Org naked is a great feeling. It's exciting, like punching out a cop, or not wearing a condom.

Darth Solo said...

@Anonymous gratz! How many times did you die?

Anonymous said...

I did it last night. level 63 priest. took the side entrance, which is longer, but less populated. died 4 times. ran naked to avoid the repairs, good tip

Anonymous said...

I tried the phased version of Ogg and it would not let me in the inmstance - guess they fixed that little loophole....

Darth Solo said...

Aw that sucks. But does it still allow you to go fishing in Orgrimmar? I hope it does.

Anonymous said...

No they removed that. You can't fish up anything, including ol crafty in the phased org.

Darth Solo said...

Gaddamit! That's a sucky move on Blizzard's part, though, to be fair, it was kinda an exploit.

Anonymous said...

Hey, great blog :) I'm a solo player too, and googled 'how can alliance get into ragefire': this was the first hit! Thanks so much, I'm looking forward to running through Org naked with my lvl 60 Dwarf Hunter later tonight lol.

I shall be keeping up with your blog, thanks again :)

Darth Solo said...

Thanks quew!

Anonymous said...

Im a lvl 56 dwarf hunter and try to solo what I can but is there a secret to soloing dungeons that are close to my own lvl? Do I take it slow or it just cant be done? Great blog by the way:)Helped a lot

Anonymous said...

What fishing achievements are you all talking about? Just for future reference...

Darth Solo said...

@Anonymous #1 as a hunter it's easier to solo some content than other classes. Still, at 56 I doubt I could solo something like Stratholme, for example. If I were you, I would try something in the 40+ range. At least start from there and see how it goes. Also try to gear yourself in the best way possible, use a Beast Master spec and get a tanking pet.

@Anonymous #2 there's an achievement that requires you to fish something (minimum 1 fish) in Orgrimmar. Also I believe there's one that you can get for catching a very rare fish, also in Orgrimmar.

Anonymous said...

Thanks a lot! Btw they were both the same anonymous :D(me) i forgot to add my question about the fishing achivements in the first one. Would soloing Mauradon or Zul Farrak be possible or should i lvl higher?

Darth Solo said...

I think those could be doable but you should aim towards twinking your character a little if you can and watch those pulls!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the brilliant idea! Just did this with my lvl 59 night elf hunter; took me longer to get to the instance than through it (so I wasn't very skillful at avoiding the guards.) As a bonus, there were players all around, but not one attacked me. They were probably all trying to figure out what the naked elf was doing in the middle of their city :)

I have heard several people say that you now have to complete some chain quests before you can run Ragefire Chasm. Does anyone know if this is true, I would hate to run through the city on my 80 main and getting killed only to get there and not able to get in

Darth Solo said...

You don't need to complete any quests. It's just like any other 5-man. Just enter the portal.

Brian said...

I tried to run it this morning. I'm wondering if there's a bug because of the recent patching, but when I took my 80 DK in either entrance, my PvP flag went on, but no NPCs attacked or anything. I also couldn't attack anyone or enter the instance.

Hopefully, it's just a bug they can fix. I really want to try this...

Darth Solo said...

Heh heh that's a good bug. Every time I tried to sneak into Orgrimmar with my level 80's I didn't have a lot of problems, as a hunter at least. I only got trouble from guards but I managed to keep them busy with my pet.

Anonymous said...

THAT. WAS. SO. FUN.

i was using a pally at 49 so i had the advantage of the divine shields, but still great advice to do it naked, cos i died LOADS of times

Darth Solo said...

I thought you don't get equipment damage when killed by other players or guards. I might be mistaken though...

Anonymous said...

Is this worth a shot with a lvl 57 warlock? I have to say it does sound fun.

Darth Solo said...

Sure it is. You just have to run through Org and hope you'll make it. Keep your demon out (the voidwalker preferably) and have him attack all the guards. He should taunt them off you while you're running. If you die, it shouldn't be a biggie anyway at that level. Repair costs are low at 57.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the info. It was a bit tough to get in, but I ennded up corpse dragging during early morning hours. Reallty simple once you are there.

Testifus said...

My L75 Mage ran in the back entrance and died right at the instance when a Warlock feared me and I couldn't run in. :-) Walked back and jumped right in. Whee.

Anonymous said...

I cant even get in the door...it just does not work atm

Darth Solo said...

That's preposterous!

Anonymous said...

Did this with a L70 Draenei Mage today after reading your guide. I do have to commend the person who said to run through the back door. Putting on the good old Ice Armor and stripping down to my tabard and cloak, I was able to streak my way to the dungeon without dying ^^ Past a few Horde but only ones chasing me were the guards.

Darth Solo said...

Yeah definitely the back door is the way to go. I tried both and even though the back door route is longer, it's also safer due to there being less people along it.

Anonymous said...

While the idea of running nekkid sounds fun, you also could buy a tuxedo and run it. No armor value, change using your armor profile in character screen. Just a thought.

Darth Solo said...

Yeah and you'd do it in style then :)

Anonymous said...

How do I enter the instance? Except the guards out front, the Horde doesn't even notice me. But I can't get inside. Is there something I need to do first?

Darth Solo said...

Unless they've changed something (and I don't think they have) I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to enter. It's just like any other instance, you walk in.

You could try resetting your instances. Also, disable all your addons. Sometimes addons can have strange effects. If all else fails, try again in a day or two. It might be that the instance server was down when you made your attempt.

Unknown said...

Yeah I just tried today and I could not get in either.

Darth Solo said...

Mkay... I guess they did change something. But why oh why?

Anonymous said...

I just did this to complete the Classic Dungeon Master achieve and it worked great. That was a perfect strategy, thank you for the advice. I only died once and was even called a 'sexy devil' (lol) by one of the lower level Hordes who saw me die. Than he proceeded to lay down next to my corpse. It was A LOT of fun! Thanks again :)

Darth Solo said...

Hey glad to be of assistance!

Anonymous said...

This no longer works. all the 85 guards will kill you over and over. Then the instance will not allow you in.....

Darth Solo said...

Yes but wait until WE become 85 and wear awesome gear!

Donielle Whitaker said...

Attempted twice today... instance will not let me in.

Aimeethyst said...

Easiest way to do it now is with a flying mount. Vertical dive from high up, straight into the tunnel entrance, timing it to avoid the flying patrols. Stay close to the tunnel roof and double back to your left into the instance.

Darth Solo said...

@Aimeethyst hah yeah I never thought about that! Great tip, thanks!

Anonymous said...

Spent hours trying. Instance wont let me in.

Rayne said...

Same here. I went as a lvl 66 DK, dressed only in a V-day dress and I could not get in. It is easier to get there now that we have flying but it won't let me in the instance.

Elcasp said...

did it yesterday , at first I couldn't get in, but when I killed the 2 guards at the entrance, I could!! maybe that's the trick ...

Anonymous said...

i have been tring for the past 30 min and cant get in

Anonymous said...

If you are too close to the swirling instance barrier it does not let you in. Rez a few yards back, run at the wall, and you can make it before the lvl 85 guards kill you. I just did it naked as a level 63 Alliance player. It only took a dozen or two corpse runs from far off Razor Hill!

McKenzie Serenity said...

So I'm still on my way through. It sucks that you get rezzed in Razor Hill. I've died three times so far. As I type this I'm on my way back to my corpse which is right at the entrance to the Shadow Cleft. I tried flying in, but I came in low to try avoiding the wind riders. That didn't work very well. I barely managed to make it into the Drag that way. Oh, and did I mention I have a server restart in fifteen minutes?

tntoak said...

I just did this with my Lvl 80 hunter by flying into Org from Azshara and flying directly into the Cleft of Shadow and then the portal. I had stripped the hunter down in case of death from NPCs, but I made it into the instance in one shot without dying at all. It took only a couple of minutes to get to Taragaman and kill him for the achievement.

Anonymous said...

I was having the same issue with the instance not letting me in. I made the mistake of putting my gear back on for the final run through the portal. Didn't make it through, and then I couldn't take the gear back off because I'm in combat as soon as I rez. Major repairs :(
Will go back and try flying all the way again, but there are probably too many guards. I'm 62 DK, may not be possible at this lvl (killing guards sadly not an option). Also not sure if the portal stops me because I'm in combat.
