The author argues that there's no such thing as 'internet addiction' per se, since it's not something like tobacco or drugs which you can become physically dependent upon. (As an analogy, people don't say they're 'addicted' to TV, books, or exercise). Indeed, since the internet has become a crucial tool for socializing and work, it is naturally expected that we spend more time on the computer. But there is definitely the potential for online games such as WoW, which demand lots and lots of time, to interfere with real-life obligations, and that's when use becomes 'problematic,' but still not necessarily addictive, since you can always switch to a different form of entertainment.

I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but that I have an 'obsession' with WoW. I started playing last summer and even though I haven't played it for two months (devoting more time to college), I still think about renewing my account daily and get my WoW 'fix' by looking at websites (and I managed to stumble across your blog, after all!). Instead of playing WoW, I've been reading books and writing random stuff in my spare time (I'm an English major). I feel more productive, and I think reading is overall a more positive experience, but at the end of the day what you do in your spare time doesn't really matter, as long as you save time for the important stuff. I wish you best of luck in whatever you choose to do.Amwidklenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3529183485378908367.post-38983355413222262852010-05-05T09:25:38.400-05:002010-05-05T09:25:38.400-05:00How's your P90X program going on?
